Coaches



Jeremy Winters



Jeremy Winters will begin his first season as NIACC's head men's basketball coach in the 2022-23 season.

Winter was an assistant coach under Mark Mohl for 11 seasons.


As an assistant coach, Winters was involved in all areas of coaching for the Trojans.

He was active in recruiting, practice implementation, game planning, fundraising, and scouting, as well as being in charge of post player development and strength and conditioning.


Winters graduated in December 2016 with his Master's Degree in Higher Education from Iowa State University.

Winters graduated from Waldorf College with a Bachelor's Degree in Wellness in 2011 with an emphasis in strength and conditioning.


He has been coaching and involved with AAU basketball for the past 8 years.


Winters began his college career at Iowa Lakes Community College where he received 1st team Academic All-Region Honors. He completed his collegiate career at Waldorf in the 2009-2010 season and received All-Conference Honorable Mention. In the 2010-11 season, he was a student assistant at Waldorf College for both the varsity and junior varsity programs.



Greg Falls



Greg is very dedicated to his players and the learning process. He fell in love with the game at a young age and has been sharing his passion for the game as a coach for the last 10 years.


Greg graduated from McCluer North High School in St. Louis Missouri. He was a high performing athlete in three sports (Football, Basketball, and Baseball) for four years. He continued his football career with Alabama A&M where he red shirted for a year and then transferred to NIACC. He played two years and was nominated Captain his second year.


Greg is currently coaching Mason City Girls Tribe basketball team for the 4th season. He will be joining Iowa Frost after coaching boys at North Iowa Fire for 3 season. Greg has also coached football for the past 5 years with MCYSF and will continue this fall. Greg specializes in speed, agility, and skills development.


Greg resides in Mason City with his wife Jody. They have 5 children Jaelyn, Zaria, Jameer, Gracelynn, and Zayden that attend Mason City Community Schools



Cody Martin



Cody lives in Clear Lake with his wife and two children but grew up in rural Southwest Wisconsin.


He played four years of varsity basketball and continued his athletic career running track for UW-Platteville.


He started coaching basketball when his son began playing and has grown to love helping the next generation improve as both players and young men.


Cody is excited for the opportunity to be a part of the Frost coaching staff this year.



Jason Sopko



Jason Sopko is a '89 graduate for Forest City HS and went on to football and baseball and Iowa Lake Community College from where he earned a criminal justice degree. From there he attended Dakota State University in South Dakota where he continued his football and baseball playing career and graduated with an education degree. His teaching career started in Nebraska and was the head coach in football and boy's track.


Jason is currently the technology director of the Forest City Schools and head girls track coach. He has obtained master's degrees in education as well as educational technology. He has coached many different sports over the years.


Jason got involved coaching basketball when his boys started becoming more involved with the sport and is in 1st year of coaching the 17u team.


In all coaching, building relationships the kids is at top of his list. He focuses on skill development, self improvement and accountability to yourself and teammates.



Michael Cranshaw



Michael Cranshaw is a 2018 graduate of Charles City High School.


During his time at CC, he played basketball for the Charles City Comets. He also played basketball at NIACC.


He has been playing basketball his whole life and loves to share his passion for the game with others.


He has spent the last 3 years coaching basketball for both the school and AAU and is excited for the opportunity to continue coaching for Frost.



Jeremy Ainley



Jeremy is the current Clear Lake Head Boys Varsity Coach.

2022 marks the 9th season Jeremy Ainley will be at the helm of Clear Lake Boys Basketball.

In his 8 seasons as Head Coach, the Lions have vaulted into statewide prominence by winning conference titles 5 times and qualified for 2 state tournament berths.

The Lion's up-tempo style combined with solid defense has broken numerous school records and has resulted in multiple all-state players.

Jonathon Hicklin



Jonathan Hicklin begins his first season as an assistant coach for the NIACC men’s basketball team in the 2024-25 season.


Hicklin, who is from Charlotte, N.C., started his playing career at NCAA D1 James Madison University and later transferred to NCAA D2 Winston-Salem University.


During Hicklin’s career at Winston-Salem, he helped the Rams win the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season championship twice in 2019-20 and 2021-22. The Rams also won the conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2019-20 and 2022-23 seasons. Hicklin averaged eight points and five rebounds per game for his career while making 64 starts.


Hicklin was a standout player at Northside Christian Academy in High School where he averaged 16.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.8 steals per contest his senior year. His performance earned him one of 24 spots in the North Carolina Boys Private School All-star game.


After his playing career, Hicklin was an assistant coach at NJCAA D1 Howard College in Texas.


Hicklin holds a bachelors of arts degree in mass communication from Winston-Salem University.



Matt Logeman



Matt is a graduate of Central Springs High School.


While in High School Matt, was a 4 sport athlete throughout his career.


After graduating, he turned his focus on learning and growing as a coach to help young athletes get better at basketball.


Matt is currently in his second year with Central Springs High School as their assistant coach.


He has experience coaching AAU for the past two summers.


Matt will bring energy, putting the players first and focusing on improving skill development while still gaining knowledge and skills.


He will bring knowledge of his playing career and coaching to help the athletes become successful.


Matt currently resides in Mason City with his wife and son.
